Um, you know how I ranted a little about those Black Friday sales?
Well, you may remember how on December 3rd, 1979, 11 people were killed trying to get into a Who concert in Cincinnati. It was due to the festival seating policy, and when people were allowed in (late), they crushed each other trying to get to the good seats.
Flash forward to November 28th in Long Island new York - Wal*Mart. A 34 year old man was trampled by shoppers eager to get the best deal at a post Thanksgiving sale. Dozens of people were knocked down, including a pregnant woman.
Cross the country to Palm Desert - right by Coachella here in Southern California... Two men get into a fight (it's unclear about what, though their girlfriends were involved) which ends in the two of them shooting each other to death. Inside a packed Toys R Us store.
In both instances, people were reluctant to leave the store and miss out on the sales.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if both locales had been blown off the face of the earth, because I don't want these people to reproduce if they are so callous as to fight for a sale or toy over the dead body of an employee or customer. But that's just me.
Anyway, get more info on it here.
As for me... I'm going to be supporting local businesses and artisians. Or ordering online. Because no way in hell am I going to Toys R Us for that Tickle Me Elmo... they'll shoot your eye out!
